Rooted in Passion: Lipin’s Journey from Classroom to Cultivation

  • Laya Rajan

What began as a passing thought in the mind of a nineteen-year-old has grown into a flourishing organic enterprise. Lipin, a native of Palakkad, once led a life typical of any student – academics, friends, and routines – until an unexpected urge drew him toward farming. That impulse became a lifelong passion, culminating in Healthnest, a brand now synonymous with purity and sustainability in Kerala’s value-added organic produce market.

At Healthnest, the emphasis lies on authenticity – food free from chemical preservatives and synthetic additives. Lipin follows traditional preservation methods to ensure freshness and longevity. From wholesome rice varieties like Rakthashali and Njavara, millets such as Chama and Ragi, and spice powders to natural oils safe even for infants, every product reflects his commitment to quality. The brand’s offerings also include palm sugar and coconut sugar, widely preferred by diabetic patients, and pure ghee made from natively raised cows.

Over the past six years, Healthnest has steadily expanded its footprint, cultivating produce on both owned and leased farmland. Beyond its products, the venture empowers numerous women – homemakers and professionals across Kerala and abroad – who promote and sell Healthnest products independently, earning sustainable income in the process. Many women settled overseas also carry these products back with them, helping fuel a growing global demand built purely on quality and word of mouth.

An MBA graduate who once faced skepticism for choosing farming over convention, Lipin now stands tall, supported by his family and driven by a vision to take Healthnest to international markets while leading farmers toward sustainable entrepreneurship.
